I remember Candice. She was a wonderful role model for me when I was a cadet and then a brand new LT at Fort Bragg, NC. I looked up to officers like her. She may not know it, but she inspired me!

Once again, an excellent entry in this wonderful series! I can't wait until the book is out.

Candice's story is like so many of my peers. Overcoming the challenges that life (and the Army) throws at you takes incredible balance and resilience. I'm glad to hear that your husband's PTSD is not sugar-coated in the story. It is real, it is always there to some degree, and it takes the whole family's dedication to live with it. You are very fortunate to have each other's support.

I just returned from a one-year deployment, and my husband remained stateside with our son. After each of us taking turns as the "non-deployer," I definitely agree with you that the one deploying has it easier. The work and the job are what we do out of duty, but the caretaker of the family invests so much more emotionally. Best wishes to you both over this next year. You will be in our thoughts and prayers as a sister, soldier, mother, and friend!

Major Mindy Kimball (USMA '96), student, Command and General Staff School, Fort Belvoir, Virginia

The views expressed in this blog comment are those of the author and do not reflect the official policy or position of the Department of the Army, Department of Defense, or the U.S. Government

Inspirational and re-assuring that our 'next' generation has found the things that hold their families together for the growth of themselves and their children...VERY proud of you and of my children who are serving and served.
